Civil engineers are essential in shaping our physical world, overseeing the planning, design, construction, and upkeep of infrastructure like buildings, flood protection systems, and water networks. Our Civil Engineering program provides a prestigious degree from a leading university in this discipline, equipping you with the skills for rewarding careers in both built and natural environments. The course features an optional industrial placement year between your second and third academic years, where we assist in securing professional work experience. Successful placement students receive a salary while gaining valuable industry exposure in business, public sector, or engineering firms. This international program also includes a semester abroad at one of over 65 partner universities across four continents, studying engineering in English. Opting for the MEng Civil Engineering degree provides a faster pathway to Chartered Engineer status compared to the three-year BEng.

Career opportunities - Our graduates typically join major civil engineering firms like Sir Robert McAlpine, Ramboll, Arup, and Mott McDonald, taking roles such as graduate civil engineer, site engineer, or design engineer across the UK and internationally. Some pursue advanced studies at Cardiff or other institutions worldwide, while others secure positions with prominent national and multinational corporations. Past graduates have joined companies like Deloitte, PwC, Virgin, and Shell in sectors ranging from finance to energy. In 2015/16, 95% of our School's graduates available for employment secured jobs or further education within six months of completing their studies.
