The LLB Law and French program offers a rigorous and engaging curriculum designed to equip you with essential skills for legal careers or various other professions. As legal work increasingly operates on an international scale, Cardiff's law and language degrees prepare graduates to be not only proficient in English and Welsh law but also fluent in their chosen language while understanding another nation's culture, political structures, and legal framework. This program, delivered jointly with the School of Modern Languages, helps students achieve advanced linguistic abilities while cultivating deep intercultural awareness—including specialized knowledge of French culture and the capacity to bridge cultural divides. Participants enhance their communication and analytical abilities while building resilience and self-reliance through immersive language experiences. By the end of this four-year course, graduates will possess advanced French language skills alongside a nuanced understanding of French history, literature, politics, and modern society. Alongside core modules required for the Qualifying Law Degree (essential for solicitor or barrister qualification in England and Wales), students can choose from diverse optional subjects spanning classic and contemporary legal topics. This degree fulfills the academic requirements for legal professional training, allowing graduates to advance directly to vocational programs like the Bar Professional Training Course or Legal Practice Course. Cardiff stands out as the sole Russell Group university providing both courses, giving students the opportunity to complete their full legal education here. The Legal Practice Course has maintained top ratings from the Solicitors Regulation Authority and Law Society.
