During our 4-year English Literature and Modern Language (BA) program, you'll enhance advanced communication and analytical skills while building resilience and independence through immersive foreign language experiences. This flexible degree lets you explore literature across various historical periods, cultures, and genres while studying one of three modern languages: Chinese, French, or Spanish. You'll join the pathway that matches your proficiency - students with A-level or equivalent language skills enter our Upper Elementary track, while beginners join our Elementary program. Our English literature courses go beyond traditional texts, examining connections between literature and other disciplines like film, art, history, technology, and contemporary issues. You'll discover how literature engages with social, environmental, and economic challenges to promote inclusivity and sustainable solutions for our planet's future. Teaching and evaluation We utilize diverse instructional approaches including lectures, seminars, language sessions, and workshops. Lectures introduce fundamental concepts and frameworks, preparing you for independent research and idea development during seminar discussions. These materials may be delivered in-person or digitally for flexible learning. Seminars feature small-group interactive sessions with teaching staff, employing various formats like group discussions, collaborative work, and student presentations. Qualification Requirements

A level - ABB-BBC. Must include grade B in Creative Writing, English Language and Literature or English Literature. If you have grade B in the relevant language A-level you will have access to the languages advanced pathways. International Baccalaureate - 32-30 overall or 665-655 in 3 HL subjects. Must include grade 6 in HL English Language and Literature, English Literature, or English Literature and Performance. If you have grade 6 in a HL language you will have access to the languages Upper Elementary pathway. You must have: You must have or be working towards: English language or Welsh language at GCSE grade C/4 or an equivalent (such as A-levels). If you require a Student visa, you must ensure your language qualification complies with UKVI requirements. We do not accept Critical Thinking, General Studies, Citizenship Studies, or other similar equivalent subjects. We will accept a combination of BTEC subjects, A-levels, and other qualifications, subject to the course specific grade and subject requirements. IELTS (academic): At least 6.5 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in each subskill. TOEFL iBT: At least 90 overall with a minimum of 17 for writing, 17 for listening, 18 for reading, and 20 for speaking.
