We encourage you to pursue your interests and fuel your intellectual curiosity by exploring meaningful topics. Blending scientific training with thematic or period-specific modules, you'll contextualize your technical skills within chosen archaeological frameworks. You'll gain extensive knowledge of British and Mediterranean archaeology while specializing in your preferred areas.A key feature is our eight-week professional placement, usually involving archaeological excavations, though options span laboratories, museums, and other settings. These transformative experiences occur during summers after your first and second years, both domestically and internationally, building practical competencies in real-world scenarios. Beyond field skills developed through our state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, you'll enhance research capabilities via a second-year independent project. Guided by faculty experts, you'll design and execute an archaeological investigation on a subject of personal interest.Upon graduation, you'll possess both theoretical understanding of scientific methodologies and practical experience applying them. Your developed skills - including teamwork, leadership, and communication - will be highly sought after by employers.Learning approach and evaluationThe School of History, Archaeology and Religion fosters your growth through exceptional learning environments, emphasizing student-centered knowledge and skill development.Instruction combines lectures, lab sessions, interactive workshops, and tutorials, supplemented by visits to local sites like National Museum Wales and heritage organizations. You'll learn from distinguished faculty across the School and Cardiff University, while engaging with guest experts.Lectures vary in format but typically establish subject frameworks, introduce core concepts, and present current information. You'll receive specialized training in archaeological scientific techniques, gaining hands-on experience with various applications while developing essential lab safety and protocol competencies. The program ensures you acquire specialized practical expertise in at least one focused area.
A level - BBB-BCC. International Baccalaureate - 31-29 overall or 665-655 in 3 HL subjects. You must have or be working towards: English language or Welsh language at GCSE grade C/4 or an equivalent (such as A-levels). If you require a Student visa, you must ensure your language qualification complies with UKVI requirements. We do not accept Critical Thinking, General Studies, Citizenship Studies, or other similar equivalent subjects. We will accept a combination of BTEC subjects, A-levels, and other qualifications, subject to the course specific grade and subject requirements. IELTS - At least 6.5 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in each sub-score TOEFL iBT - At least 90 with minimum scores of 17 for writing, 17 for listening, 18 for reading and 20 for speaking.
