Why choose this program? The Engineering Foundation Year is specifically structured to equip you with the essential knowledge required for pursuing an engineering degree. While the Foundation program spans one year, it serves as a gateway to our degree programs rather than being a standalone year. It forms the first phase of your academic journey toward earning a BEng or MEng degree. Upon successful completion of the Foundation Year with a minimum 50% average, you'll advance to the first year of your selected degree program. This course introduces you to diverse engineering fields through lectures, tutorials, and case studies, covering relevant mathematics, physics, and IT concepts. The hands-on approach differs from traditional school teaching methods, with evaluation through projects, continuous assessments, and semester-end exams. After passing the foundation year, you can select your preferred engineering specialization and begin the corresponding degree program. Cardiff School of Engineering stands out by offering comprehensive MEng and BEng programs across multiple disciplines, including architectural, civil, electrical, mechanical, medical, and integrated engineering, many featuring optional industrial placement years. Learning and evaluation methods include lectures, practical sessions, lab work, and IT applications. The initial two years focus on core modules, with more flexibility in year three. All students undertake a significant individual project in their third year, supported by faculty supervisors, while also gaining exposure to potential career opportunities.
