This combined honors program evenly divides your studies between two complementary fields. You'll enjoy a wide selection of optional courses examining historical and political themes crucial for understanding contemporary public affairs. The History curriculum enhances your knowledge and analytical skills regarding past societies' political, social, economic, and cultural frameworks. Our faculty expertise covers an exceptional range of eras and regions, including the British Isles, Europe (both eastern and western), Africa, Asia, and the Americas. Course offerings let you study traditional areas like political, social, cultural, and gender history, or discover newer fields such as environmental or digital history. The Politics component examines governmental operations and analyzes fundamental concepts like power, liberty, democracy, conflict, legitimacy, and accountability, including international relations. Diverse course options enable you to study British and global political systems while investigating policy formation processes. Additional coursework addresses justice, democratic principles, human rights, and international affairs, providing comprehensive political understanding tailored to individual interests. This program cultivates valuable digital-age competencies: creativity, empathy, analytical reasoning, persuasive communication, and the capacity to interrogate assumptions. Career Opportunities We prioritize career preparation from your first day, offering specialized courses and support to enhance your post-graduation prospects regardless of career direction. The degree establishes foundations for diverse professions including NGO work, global development, international commerce, government diplomacy and intelligence, journalism, and policy analysis, while also preparing students for advanced postgraduate study. Some graduates pursue further education at Cardiff University or other institutions, with several achieving international recognition as historians. The program develops employer-prized skills including teamwork, audience-appropriate communication, innovative problem-solving, and critical analysis. We integrate career training throughout the curriculum, emphasizing skill development during studies and effective articulation in future applications.
