During your academic journey, you'll cultivate insights into the historical and cultural foundations of media studies and cultural industries, exploring their significance in contemporary society. The curriculum examines how participation in public culture and communication is shaped by social factors including disability, class, ethnicity, gender, nationality, and sexual orientation. You'll sharpen critical thinking abilities across diverse subjects, with particular emphasis on popular culture analysis. The program actively engages with key theories, scholarly discussions, and intellectual frameworks in the discipline, applying them in practical contexts. A structured culture and communication pathway guides your three-year educational experience. While Media and Communications specifically responds to our expanding digital landscape, the program also draws from our expertise in teaching and researching journalism and media studies from both domestic and global viewpoints. Please note this academically rigorous program does not offer professional journalism training.
Learning and assessment
Our research frequently informs and directs our teaching methods. You'll learn in an encouraging atmosphere with a dedicated academic advisor to provide guidance on various matters. Those selecting more hands-on journalism and media courses will encounter multimedia and digital media instruction along with production techniques.

As our undergraduate programs don't include professional journalism certification, numerous students continue their education through our Master's programs in specialized journalism fields to obtain practical training. International Baccalaureate: 32-30 overall or 665-655 in 3 HL subjects.
Baccalaureate Wales: From September 2023, there will be a new qualification called the Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales (level 3). This qualification will replace the Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (Welsh Baccalaureate). The qualification will continue to be accepted in lieu of one A-Level (at the grades listed above), excluding any specified subjects.
You must have or be working towards:
English language or Welsh language at GCSE grade B/6 or an equivalent (such as A-levels). If you require a Student visa, you must ensure your language qualification complies with UKVI requirements. 
We do not accept Critical Thinking, General Studies, Citizenship Studies, or other similar equivalent subjects.
We will accept a combination of BTEC subjects, A-levels, and other qualifications, subject to the course specific grade and subject requirements.
GCSE - Grade B or grade 6 in GCSE English Language. IELTS (academic) - At least 7.0 overall with a minimum of 6.0 in each subskill. TOEFL iBT - At least 100 overall with a minimum of 20 in each subskill.
