This Foundation Degree in Graphic Communication, accredited by Cardiff Metropolitan University, equips you with essential knowledge and skills for a career in graphic arts. After completing the second year, you can upgrade to a BA degree by undertaking a final year at Cardiff Met. The program is taught at Cardiff Arts Academy, conveniently located near the City Centre campus. What You'll Learn The course explores diverse Graphic Design disciplines, blending traditional and emerging communication methods. Focused on creativity, it develops problem-solving abilities across various areas including print (both digital and traditional), photography, information design, editorial and publicity work, illustration, and interactive web design. Strong industry connections with local design firms provide real-world exposure through both experimental and commercial projects. Graphic Communication merges creative thinking with practical media applications, from traditional pencil sketching to modern software tools. You'll master various techniques such as narrative imagery, layout design, and motion graphics. Graduates can advance to the third year of the BA (Hons) Graphic Communication program at Cardiff Metropolitan University's School of Art and Design.

Applications to the course will be considered on an individual basis. Typical entry requirements are detailed below but if you don’t meet these criteria, then your portfolio of appropriate work and experience will be taken into consideration at interview. Combinations of the qualifications below are acceptable and other qualifications not listed may also be acceptable. Applicants must be 18 or over and for standard entry a minimum of 48 UCAS tariff points is required, which is reflected in the offers below: Typical A-Level Offer - DD Typical BTEC Offer - relevant BTEC level 3 profile of Pass/Pass/Pass The Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate will be accepted in place of one A-level at the grades specified, excluding any subject specific requirements Typical Access to HE Offer - Pass Diploma with 45 credits at level 3 in a related subject Additionally, GCSE passes in three subjects at grade C or above to include Mathematics and English Language (or equivalent). A successful interview with the Course Leader or another member of the team may also be a requirement for entry onto the course. ​IELTS Academic ​Overall score: 6.0 (with no component below 5.5). ​TOEFL IBT (Internet Based Test) ​Overall score: 72. Minimum scores required in each skill area are: Reading: 18, Listening: 17, Writing: 17 Speaking: 20.
