Clay possesses a visual and tactile vocabulary that transcends cultural boundaries. This fundamental material is deeply woven into human existence, serving practical needs and evoking personal memories. Ceramic artists master this exceptionally adaptable medium, perceiving the world through touch while harnessing the alchemy of material transformation.
Cardiff Met's BA (Hons) Ceramics program cultivates the expertise needed to thrive in this growing field. Students investigate making through an anthropological lens, chart material practices across socio-geographic contexts, and develop socially engaged skills through collaborations with galleries, marketplaces, collections, and our international studio network. The curriculum fosters creative methodologies to recognize personal creative patterns while teaching glaze and material science to materialize concepts.
Graduates gain versatile skills for both artistic and commercial applications, understanding ceramics' expansive spectrum from functional ware to figurative work, installations to technological innovations. Through live projects, competitions, and cross-disciplinary initiatives, students refine their individual artistic voice while preparing for professional practice.
