Brunel's Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences department brings together a dynamic group of researchers specializing in both natural and social sciences. The natural science division explores the interconnected fields of human physiology, biomechanics, and sports psychology, seeking to deepen our knowledge of how cardiovascular, respiratory, and neuromuscular systems respond to physical activity. This research also examines the physiological, biomechanical, and psychological factors that influence athletic performance and exercise capacity. Meanwhile, social science investigations examine how sports, health, and wellbeing intersect with modern society, informing policy and practical applications. This work covers diverse areas, from studying participation in community sports and healthy living to examining high-performance athletic systems and elite competitors.
