The Division of Criminology and Criminal Justice brings together a vibrant, diverse community of researchers driven by intellectual curiosity. Our team leads cutting-edge criminological research across multiple domains such as: mental health and criminal behavior; urban subcultures; digital sex work and deviance; youth and crime; gender studies; racial and ethnic dynamics; migration patterns; the criminalization of vulnerable groups; judicial processes and justice systems; high-risk offenders, gambling behaviors, and immigration issues.

Our collective expertise spans various theoretical approaches and research methodologies to support your doctoral studies. We specialize in diverse methods including mixed-method research, policy evaluation, ethnographic studies, narrative life histories, and media content analysis. Department members have conducted extensive research across multiple sectors including law enforcement, judicial institutions, correctional facilities, forensic mental health programs, and probation services. We maintain strong partnerships with funding bodies like the Ministry of Justice, Department of Health, and Howard League for Penal Reform. Our division enjoys close collaboration with Brunel's policing program and benefits from interdisciplinary connections within the Department of Social and Political Sciences, which includes specialists in political science, sociology, anthropology, and history.
