Our BA (Hons) Sociology and Criminology with Foundation Year program features reduced entry criteria while still providing a pathway to a complete bachelor's degree qualification.
This specially designed course enables UK and EU students who don't initially meet Birmingham City University's standard Sociology or Criminology degree requirements to complete additional foundational studies, ensuring their success in their chosen degree path.
The foundation year prepares students with essential knowledge and skills to progress into any of our undergraduate Sociology or Criminology programs within the School of Social Sciences.
Our BA (Hons) Sociology and Criminology degree offers a progressive, practical curriculum that combines theoretical foundations with empirical research, addressing both local contexts and global perspectives.
At Birmingham City University, Sociology isn't just about studying theories - it's about active engagement, challenging social conventions, and investigating the complex factors behind daily routines and social behaviors across different environments, applying these insights to personal experiences.
Incorporating Criminology into the program provides understanding of societal perceptions of crime, criminal behavior, and control mechanisms, along with examining crime's relationship to broader social structures. Students analyze inequality patterns, social hierarchies, power dynamics, identity formation, and resulting tensions.
