This four-year BA (Hons) Fine Art with Foundation Year program is specifically structured to include an additional preparatory year, strengthening your creative foundation for successful advancement through your chosen degree path.
In a vibrant, supportive atmosphere, you'll have the opportunity to broaden your practical abilities, creative investigation, and conceptual approaches, supported by comprehensive critical analysis, academic writing, and emerging theoretical frameworks.
Specialized Foundation tutors will guide you throughout the year, while BA faculty from across Birmingham Institute of Creative Arts (BICA) will collaborate closely to prepare you for progression.
You'll engage in both collaborative and individual projects designed to enhance your interpersonal abilities and define your evolving professional identity.
Throughout the program, you'll tackle projects that challenge your existing creative perspectives while exploring diverse experimental approaches to expand your technical and analytical skills.
You'll be motivated to examine creative methodologies and materials while reflecting on your position within historical, contemporary, and future contexts. Practical and written research assignments will be supported through individual tutorials and group discussions to foster academic and social growth.
The initial semester modules establish fundamental creative practice principles, emphasizing technical proficiency, academic skills, and productive output.
The concluding semesters promote meaningful connections between research and practice, testing both creative decision-making and technical mastery.
This phase aims to equip you with the autonomous learning capabilities essential for future BA-level study.
Upon successfully completing the Foundation Year, you'll have the option to transfer to related undergraduate programs within Birmingham School of Art, School of Visual Communication, or the School of Games, Film and Animation.

80 UCAS tariff points.
GCSE English Language or English Literature and GCSE Maths at grade C/4 or above. If you do not have these or are not undertaking them, we accept other Level 2 equivalents, or we may ask you to pass BCU's GCSE equivalency tests.
International Baccalaureate Diploma - Obtain a minimum of 24 points overall
IELTS - 6.0 with no banding below 5.5.
