Our BA (Hons) Applied Theatre program is designed to cultivate passionate, skilled theater creators of tomorrow. We emphasize building both the technical abilities and conceptual frameworks required to develop meaningful new performances and purposeful theater initiatives. Our approach considers not just theatrical techniques, but also examines the deeper motivations behind creative work.
The Applied Theatre curriculum prioritizes hands-on learning. Students build upon their existing talents while acquiring new competencies in facilitation, collaborative creation, and all facets of theatrical production. Beyond crafting original works, you'll develop the expertise to connect with diverse communities, exploring performance applications across various settings - from educational institutions and community spaces to healthcare facilities, correctional environments, and public spaces.

Career preparation
This program fosters both personal growth and professional development, preparing graduates as fully-qualified applied performance specialists. You'll gain the knowledge, skills, and insights to pursue careers in applied performance or broader creative fields. The course provides an environment to refine your artistic abilities while developing reflective, specialized practice.
Through examining cultural theories and practical applications, you'll understand how conceptual frameworks inform creative work. By strengthening research, academic, discussion, and presentation capabilities, you'll gain confidence in delivering professional work. The program establishes you as an informed practitioner through comprehensive study of applied performance history and contemporary contexts in theater and drama.
