Scientific and technological progress continually expands the frontiers of medical potential. Yet how do the humanities contribute? How does medicine appear in creative works like art, literature, and cinema, and how do these portrayals shape our perceptions of health, illness, and our physical selves?

Offered jointly by Birkbeck's School of Arts and School of Social Sciences, History and Philosophy, this interdisciplinary MA in Medical Humanities: Bodies, Cultures and Ideas examines health through cultural and historical perspectives. The program addresses diverse subjects including contagious illnesses, nutrition and fitness, psychological health, and disability studies.
