Course OverviewOur MA in Medical and Health Humanities provides an opportunity to examine human health through cultural and historical perspectives, addressing subjects such as infectious diseases, nutrition and fitness, disabilities, and mental wellness.Why select this programThis interdisciplinary program brings together students and faculty from various backgrounds, time periods, and regions to examine the intricate connections between medicine and humanities. Perfect for those engaged in or curious about healthcare studies, it deepens your insight into patient-provider dynamics and how these interactions are reflected in modern culture, theory, and creative works.You'll examine how scientific progress continually expands medical frontiers while investigating how humanities shape our perception of medicine through artistic expressions in literature, cinema, and other media - influencing how we comprehend our bodies and the realities of illness and wellness.What you'll studyIn this MA program, you'll investigate pressing contemporary issues affecting individuals, healthcare professionals, and artists as they navigate topics like identity, gender, sexual orientation, personal freedom, human rights, and inclusion within medical contexts.The curriculum also covers the evolution of medical institutions and practices, the establishment of medical knowledge and leadership, and the significance of healthcare ethics and legal frameworks.
A second-class honours degree (2:2) or above in an arts, humanities or social sciences subject. Applications are reviewed on their individual merits and your professional qualifications and/or relevant work experience will be taken into consideration positively. We actively support and encourage applications from mature learners. If English is not your first language or you have not previously studied in English, our usual requirement is the equivalent of an International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic Test) score of 6.5, with not less than 6.0 in each of the sub-tests. TOEFL: 79 (reading: 18, writing: 23, listening: 19, speaking: 19).
