Topics include: industrialization's societal effects, evolving gender roles, the historical trajectory of colonialism, Anthropocene theories, trauma studies, postmodern thought, and posthumanist perspectives.Through engagement with literature and diverse cultural expressions—including visual arts, cinema, critical theories, philosophical texts, and digital media—you'll critically assess contemporary understandings of modernity. A dedicated research methods module will refine your academic skills to graduate standards. You can personalize your studies by selecting from annually rotating elective modules covering various compelling themes.
Our standard postgraduate entry requirement is a second-class honours degree (2:2 or above) from a UK university, or an equivalent international qualification. Your first degree does not have to be in English Literature. If English is not your first language or you have not previously studied in English, our usual requirement is the equivalent of an International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic Test) score of 6.5, with not less than 6.0 in each of the sub-tests. TOEFL: 79 (reading: 18, writing: 23, listening: 19, speaking: 19).
