This arts policy and management program offers an opportunity to examine the principles and advantages of sustainable, strategic approaches in the cultural sector. Students will investigate leadership dynamics and power structures while integrating policy and management perspectives with contemporary challenges. This includes initiatives tackling gender disparities through artistic activism, promoting diversity via intersectional frameworks, and shaping cultural policies based on interpreted values. Participants will assess artistic works and their audiences through the dual perspective of policy and management.
The curriculum delivers an extensive examination of the field, blending theoretical foundations with practical applications in today's social, political, economic, and technological landscape. Through intimate seminar discussions, students enhance their analytical abilities while examining both public/nonprofit arts institutions and relevant commercial sector concerns.
For those seeking hands-on experience, an optional placement allows students to pursue individual research interests within arts organizations. Previous participants have gained meaningful experience at prestigious institutions including the Greater London Authority, Hackney Museum, Big Dance Project, and the Wallace Collection.
