A premier program blending two influential literary styles to address modern global issues. Gain the expertise and practice needed to establish yourself as an author across books, articles, and digital platforms. This flexible, part-time two-year program is delivered remotely to accommodate your schedule.Through predominantly evening classes across two years, you'll dive deep into exceptional nature and travel literature, featuring insights from acclaimed authors and editors, workshops with experienced instructors, collaborative learning with fellow students, and studies of both timeless works and contemporary innovations in these genres.Your coursework will include developing substantial pieces up to 4,000 words, analytical essays, and a culminating Portfolio of up to 18,000 words. The curriculum also covers practical publishing knowledge, planning writing expeditions, creating an online persona, and launching a writing career.A key feature is our hands-on methodology for professional development, which involves submitting actual article proposals to publications, following an independent research trip that simulates real-world travel writing.Upon completion, you'll be equipped to work professionally in these genres. Many participants achieve publication in prestigious outlets before graduating.Our diverse student body represents various backgrounds, ages, and skill levels - from aspiring professionals to passionate hobbyists - all enriching our creative community.The 2025-27 program launches with a three-day in-person orientation in Bath (accommodation not included), followed by online evening sessions concluding September 2027.Program GoalsWe provide the tools and insights to launch your writing career while exploring current field developments.You'll examine:Master practitioners and their teachable techniquesThe evolution and cultural significance of nature and travel literatureEthical considerations in nonfiction, including authentic representation, factual storytelling, and crafting engaging narratives from real experiencesYour personal writing style and creative direction.
We’re looking for individuals with: A real passion for either the natural world and/or places and people; A love of travel and/or nature writing; Above all, an urge to write and be published. Ideally you should have a first degree (for example, BA/BSc), but this is not compulsory, depending on your other experience.
This course requires an IELTS test (or equivalent) with an overall grade of 7.0 and with no less than 6.0 in each component.
