This MA Education program in Early Childhood Studies enables you to assess and analyze key challenges while examining political, ethical, cultural, and social concerns in both early childhood development and broader education. The curriculum incorporates thought-provoking theoretical frameworks that stimulate critical thinking about early childhood. A central focus is children's fundamental right to play and learn through play-based approaches.

You'll investigate various viewpoints on play and creativity while emphasizing research's vital role in early education. The program addresses ethical, engaging methods for working with children, families, and communities, supported by relevant theoretical foundations. With global governments prioritizing early childhood education and increasing investments, you'll develop specialized knowledge in this growing field that offers expanding professional prospects.

Qualification Requirements

Some students apply for our MA having completed their PGCE with the intention of postponing their entry to the profession, whereas others apply before making a decision whether to become a teacher. Some are already teachers who wish to develop their understanding of the role. The content and subject matter of your first degree is open. Some students have educational studies as a first degree, while others studied subjects from marine biology to music, or are experts in alternative fields. Students are expected to have an Honours degree from a recognised Higher Education Institution in the UK, although we often accept applicants with appropriate experience that we consider sufficient and comparable, or an equivalent degree from overseas. Equivalence of overseas students' academic qualifications is assessed by NARIC. If English is not your first language, you'll need to provide evidence of proficiency in the English language. The Admissions Team assesses applications individually, but for postgraduate courses we're looking for an IELTS score of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component (Writing, Listening, Reading and Speaking).
