In this engaging program, you'll cultivate a nuanced perspective on childhood, infants, children, and families through interdisciplinary and international viewpoints. Grounded in cutting-edge research and insights from our Centre for Research in Early Childhood (REACH), you'll analyze contemporary discussions and investigate themes like play, growth, ethics, welfare, equity, and leadership. You'll acquire expertise in: The social, cultural, historical, political, and economic dimensions of early childhood; Methods for engaging with infants, young children, families, and communities; Global challenges and discussions, including children's roles as active members in family and societal structures; Factors influencing early development, encompassing ethical considerations and children's rights; Techniques for educational research and investigation.
Early Childhood Studies will prepare you for professional roles with young children across various early education environments. Career paths may include advisory positions in education and training within diverse organizations such as community groups, businesses, government agencies, NGOs, charities, museums, galleries, and libraries.
The optional placement year allows you to pursue, apply for, and obtain practical experience, typically involving one to three placements spanning at least nine months. Successfully completing this component will showcase your capacity to obtain and maintain graduate-level professional opportunities.
