Associate Teachers (ATs) will facilitate outdoor learning experiences at education centers, integrating them into the PE curriculum and using them to enhance classroom subjects through outdoor applications. ATs will view outdoor education both as a distinct subject and as a hands-on teaching methodology that enriches the broader curriculum. They'll recognize how key learning theories shape instructional approaches—for instance, applying Dewey's experiential learning principles to design reflective activities that foster deeper understanding. Contextual relevance will be emphasized, helping ATs grasp fieldwork fundamentals and interdisciplinary connections. ATs will critically evaluate modern trends in outdoor pedagogy to maintain current, meaningful practices. They'll align Outdoor and Adventurous Activities (ODA) with Wales' National Curriculum and new Learning Areas, incorporating ICT while addressing Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital Competency frameworks. ATs will exemplify the four purposes of education, nurturing students' sustainability awareness, holistic wellbeing, and societal contribution—whether in daily life or adventure settings.
