Associate Teachers (ATs) will lead outdoor activities at education centers, integrating them into the PE curriculum and using them to enhance classroom subjects through experiential learning. ATs will view outdoor education as both a distinct subject and a teaching methodology that enriches the broader curriculum. They'll apply key learning theories, such as Dewey's experiential approach, to design reflective, meaningful learning experiences. Contextual understanding will be emphasized, helping ATs grasp fieldwork fundamentals and interdisciplinary connections. Contemporary trends in outdoor pedagogy will be examined to maintain current, effective practices.
ATs will align Outdoor and Adventurous Activities (ODA) with Wales' National Curriculum and new Learning Areas, incorporating ICT and addressing Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital Competency frameworks. They'll embody the four purposes of education, fostering sustainable awareness, physical/mental wellbeing, and societal contribution in learners, whether in daily life or adventurous settings.
