For those passionate about working with animals, this specialized MZool program is ideal. This four-year extended undergraduate course lets you graduate with either a BSc (Hons) after three years or a Master's degree upon completing the fourth year. The final year provides a distinctive chance to undertake an in-depth research project, whether in a lab or field setting. Zoology focuses entirely on animals, and this degree delivers a solid foundation by examining animal diversity, form, function, evolution, and ecology. Applied zoology topics like parasitology and animal-environment interactions are also covered. You'll gain hands-on experience through lab and fieldwork, both locally and internationally, while developing transferable scientific skills such as data analysis, scientific writing, presentation techniques, IT proficiency, and teamwork. The curriculum includes diverse Zoology modules on vertebrates and invertebrates, alongside specialized Animal Management courses tailored for this program. Combining multidisciplinary and specialized zoology content, this program offers a rigorous scientific approach to animal management. Core modules explore research-based animal management strategies, covering essential topics like animal care, health, nutrition, behavior, training, facility operations, commercial farming, and zoo management. Practical sessions draw from real-world examples in animal collections, aquariums, labs, and farming industries. Assessments focus on real-world applications, preparing you for industry careers and boosting employability. Between your second and third year, you'll complete an animal husbandry placement of your choice, gaining valuable hands-on experience. In your final year, you'll apply your expertise to design and execute an original research project. If this program appeals to you, don’t forget your wellington boots—our University farm, Henfaes Research Centre, plays a key role in specialized modules, offering practical learning opportunities. Regular visits to nearby zoos and field sites further enrich your studies. Seminar sessions feature industry professionals and our animal technicians, providing networking opportunities and career guidance. Placement Year and International Experience Year options are available.
