This program primarily targets recipients of Knowledge Economy Skills Scholarships (KESS) Funding, where students conduct field research in collaboration with an external organization. Self-funded applicants with a master's degree (or equivalent professional experience) and research methodology background may also be considered. Ideal candidates will have defined research objectives and the ability to undertake independent study at PhD level, or seek a research-focused qualification valuable for academic careers or graduate employment.
The independent research component (120 credits) is expected to meet publication standards in high-quality peer-reviewed journals, with supervisory support provided to achieve this goal.
Prospective students are strongly advised to consult with potential supervisors before applying to explore research interests.
Our Psychology master's programs span multiple specialized fields, reflecting the department's diverse research strengths. The School houses several renowned research centers that not only lead academic innovation but also provide exceptional project opportunities under world-class supervision. As a key component of the College of Health and Behavioural Sciences, we maintain a robust research and teaching culture that delivers outstanding educational programs.
Career Prospects
This program suits those pursuing academic research careers or seeking advanced disciplinary expertise. While KESS-funded students may transition to PhD scholarships, this pathway isn't ESRC-accredited for doctoral studies. PhD aspirants should consider the ESRC-recognized MSc Psychology Research program instead.
