The MSc by Research program offers a specialized pathway for exceptional students who (might already have a defined research objective) and are prepared to conduct independent research as preparation for PhD studies. It also serves as an ideal option for those pursuing a standalone research-based degree to prepare for research careers or to develop transferable skills for graduate employment.
This degree requires students to complete a significant independent research project at the forefront of ageing and dementia studies (180 credits). The research is expected to meet publication standards in high-quality peer-reviewed journals.
Alongside guidance from research supervisors and collaboration with fellow postgraduate and professional researchers in the Dementia Services Development Centre, students can enroll in postgraduate-level taught modules and participate in workshops and courses offered by the University’s Academic Development Unit. While these additional modules and courses do not contribute credit toward the degree, they enhance essential skills and knowledge for postgraduate research, as recommended by the student and supervisory team.
