About This Course
Pharmacy is a dynamic and evolving healthcare field where pharmacists, as medication experts, play a vital role in enhancing patient health and societal wellbeing. Our MPharm program equips students with the necessary skills, knowledge, and competencies aligned with the General Pharmaceutical Council's (GPhC) 2021 standards for pharmacist education and training.
At the heart of our MPharm Pharmacy program is patient-centered care, ensuring students understand how pharmacists serve patient needs. While emphasizing patient care and medication management, the program provides a robust scientific foundation to guide future clinical decisions. Graduates will gain the expertise to practice safely and ethically in the emerging independent prescribing landscape.
Placements primarily in North Wales span approximately 11 weeks across community, hospital, and GP pharmacy settings, with exposure to non-traditional environments. Students develop their skills under supervisor guidance through Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs), progressively gaining autonomy in patient interactions.
Bangor's four-year MPharm prepares graduates for pharmacist and independent prescriber roles, contingent on completing a Foundation Training year and passing the GPhC Registration Assessment. Graduates may also register as Independent Prescribers (IP). While most pursue pharmacy careers, the program's scientific rigor opens doors to alternative professions.
This program is undergoing GPhC accreditation, with provisional status until completion. Our careers support includes Oriel application preparation in Year 3 and Foundation Year readiness in Year 4, while also assisting the minority pursuing non-pharmacy pathways like law, journalism, or academia.
