The Master of Arts in Music program enables you to enhance and perfect your expertise in musicological and ethnomusicological disciplines. This course provides the essential tools and research methodologies for specialized investigation in your selected field. Pursuing this Music MA will sharpen advanced abilities in analytical reasoning, conceptual development, problem-solving, evaluation, effective communication, independent initiative, and creative innovation.
Specializations are available across diverse domains, encompassing Western musical traditions (particularly from the Renaissance through the late 20th century), cultural studies, musical editing, analytical techniques, popular music studies, global music in social contexts, and Welsh musical heritage.
You'll have the opportunity to collaborate with renowned researchers, many with global recognition. The Music department maintains strong partnerships with industry leaders and cultural organizations including BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Welsh National Opera, Pontio Arts Center, and numerous prestigious music festivals and cultural institutions across Wales.

Qualification Requirements

First degree at British Bachelor's standard: 2(ii) or higher in a relevant subject.
Candidates with a 2.ii degree must however achieve a 2.i in a substantial project in their chosen area of study (e.g. dissertation).
English proficiency (for non-native English or Welsh speakers): IELTS English test with a score of 6.0 (no element below 5.5).
