Zoology focuses entirely on the study of animals. This program provides a solid foundation, examining the variety of animal structures, functions, and the evolution and ecology of major animal groups. You'll delve into practical applications like parasitology and how animals interact with their surroundings. The course offers extensive hands-on experience in labs and fieldwork, both locally and internationally, while developing valuable scientific skills such as data analysis, communication, IT proficiency, and teamwork. The curriculum includes diverse Zoology modules for vertebrates and invertebrates, along with specialized Animal Management courses tailored to this degree. This program offers a rigorous, science-based approach to animal care, combining specialized zoology topics with multidisciplinary insights. Core components include two research-driven modules on animal management, covering essential topics like animal care, health, nutrition, behavior, training, facility operations, farming, and zoo management. Practical sessions draw from real-world settings such as animal collections, aquariums, labs, and commercial farms. Assessments emphasize real-life applications, preparing you for industry careers and boosting job prospects. Between your second and third year, you'll complete a hands-on animal care placement to gain practical experience. In your final year, you'll apply your expertise to conduct an original research project. If this program excites you, don’t forget your wellies—our Henfaes Research Centre farm plays a key role in specialized modules, offering practical learning opportunities. You'll also visit nearby zoos and field sites regularly. Seminars feature industry professionals and our animal technicians, providing networking opportunities and career guidance.
