This program offers an in-depth exploration of the pre-modern era (approximately 500-1750 CE), with particular focus on Europe, Britain, and Wales. You'll gain insights into the roots of modern Western civilization while honing essential skills such as effective research methods, evidence evaluation, and articulate presentation of ideas. The curriculum culminates with an independent research project in your final year.
The program seeks to broaden your historical knowledge across diverse cultures and periods, primarily before 1750. You'll learn to critically examine medieval and early modern history, engaging with scholarly debates and understanding how contemporary perspectives shape our interpretation of the past. The curriculum fosters intellectual development to help you demonstrate history's contemporary relevance, interpret various forms of evidence, and master research, analytical reasoning, and communication techniques.
As one of the UK's most sought-after degree programs, History offers both timeless relevance and evolving perspectives. The discipline continuously incorporates fresh insights from other fields while maintaining its core methodologies. Beyond academic enrichment, you'll acquire highly marketable skills that employers consistently value. Employment statistics regularly show History graduates securing positions faster than many supposedly more career-focused degrees.
