Childhood and Youth Studies prepares you to work with children, young people, and families across various community and organizational settings, meeting the growing need for skilled professionals. Meanwhile, studying Welsh at Bangor provides more than academic learning—it immerses you in cultural experiences that contribute to building a bilingual Wales. The program blends rigorous academic training with practical applications, equipping graduates to thrive in contemporary bilingual society. You'll have chances to study internationally, present at conferences, and enhance both academic and career skills. Annual work placements deepen your insight into children's development and current practices. Our diverse faculty brings expertise from psychology, sociology, children's rights, education, and more, offering multifaceted perspectives on childhood and adolescence. Bangor's Welsh program treats the language as a vibrant modern tool, not just a historical artifact. You'll explore Wales' rich Celtic literary heritage while gaining practical skills for professional life. The course fosters independent research, creative thinking, and mastery of Welsh language registers, with optional creative writing mentorship from established authors. You'll examine Welsh in global contexts—its connections to other languages, comparisons with minority languages like Basque and Irish, and Welsh literary responses to global issues from slavery to environmental challenges. With modules spanning ancient to contemporary topics, the program offers limitless opportunities for intellectual growth.
