The Nanoscience Research Group (NRG) at Aston University spearheads innovative studies on advanced materials with diverse practical applications. Our focus spans several key materials: Carbon nanotubes, Graphene and other 2D materials, Nano-diamond, Zinc oxide, Synthetic fluorescence compounds, laser dyes, Natural pigments, and polymer composites. While unlocking these materials' complete capabilities presents challenges, our expertise in creating hybrid and composite materials, along with surface functionalization techniques, positions us as leaders in nanotechnology. Through material modification, we enable their incorporation into novel optical systems, promising significant enhancements for various technologies. Potential applications range from ultra-short pulse lasers to biological sensors and gas detection systems, among others.
