This program offers you the chance to examine political themes that extend beyond the UK and Europe, including regions like North America, South Asia, China, Japan, and rising global powers. You'll engage with both foundational topics like security, political economy, and democratization, as well as specialized areas such as ethics, sports, gender studies, activism, and religion.
In the social policy component, you'll investigate the reasoning behind governmental decisions in critical policy domains while gaining in-depth knowledge of policy formation at international, national, and local levels. The curriculum addresses the societal limitations we face daily, examining how factors like socioeconomic status, ethnicity, faith, and gender reinforce these constraints. To comprehend how these dynamics sustain inequality and disparate opportunities, we assess policy effects, the intersection of politics with corporate profit motives, and how these combined forces shape societal perceptions.
Graduates of Aston University's Politics and Social Policy program are prepared for diverse career paths. Alumni have secured positions across public, private, and nonprofit organizations, including the Department for International Development, the Ministry of Defence, and the United Nations Economic Commission.
