Our doctoral research programs enable you to participate in existing research initiatives or pursue your own academic interests in Film and Media Studies, guided by our expert faculty. You'll receive dedicated supervision from two primary advisors, with access to additional specialists when needed. Our supervisory team possesses extensive knowledge across diverse areas including film theory, digital media practices, network culture studies, cinema and gender studies, visual violence analysis, European film movements, television genre research, and popular music culture.
You'll pursue your studies within an interdisciplinary setting that fosters collaboration, maintaining strong connections with both university research networks and cultural institutions such as Cambridge Arts Picturehouse, Kettle's Yard, and CRASSH. We regularly organize and participate in academic events for researchers and graduate students, including departmental seminars, publication launches, art exhibitions, film viewings, and global conferences. Our seminar series provides opportunities to present your work in an encouraging academic environment. These professional networks, complemented by our digital platforms, facilitate connections with fellow researchers across multiple disciplines. Financial assistance may be available through our annual funding allocations for postgraduate conference travel and research expenses, including select scholarship opportunities.
