Our doctoral programs offer the opportunity to participate in ongoing research initiatives or pursue your own specialized interests in Film and Television Production, guided by our expert faculty. Grounded in your specific academic discipline, you'll analyze your work within critical frameworks, refining both theoretical and practice-based investigations while introducing innovative concepts to the field. You'll receive guidance from two primary supervisors, with access to additional faculty support as needed. Our supervisory team possesses extensive knowledge across diverse aspects of film and television production, including media SME management, digital transformation's impact on production and distribution, documentary storytelling, avant-garde filmmaking, cinematography techniques, director of photography roles, and barriers in factual programming careers.

Located within the historic Cambridge School of Art, you'll join an expanding interdisciplinary research community. We offer multiple academic forums featuring regular seminars and informal presentations for graduate researchers. Our connections extend to the Faculty's StoryLab Research Institute and Anglia Research Centre in Media and Culture (ARCMedia). You'll have access to exhibition and conference opportunities in film and television production, along with valuable networking through our partnerships with organizations like the Cambridgeshire Film Consortium, Cambridge Arts Picturehouse, Kettle's Yard, and Cambridge University's Centre for Research into Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities (CRASSH).
