Our research spans the diverse expertise within our School and Faculty, tackling the multifaceted sustainability challenges facing modern and future cities, both locally in the UK and worldwide. We invite PhD students to actively participate in our School's research network, covering topics from climate adaptation and smart urban development to engineering systems, healthcare technologies, social studies, urban design, and architectural innovation.

FCRN unites doctoral researchers and faculty members from the School of Engineering and the Built Environment and other disciplines. Our mission is to develop actionable insights and policy-oriented solutions for creating sustainable, resilient urban environments. FCRN's research methodology emphasizes cross-sector collaboration with industry partners, nonprofit organizations, and policymakers, employing participatory approaches that engage stakeholders as co-creators rather than mere study subjects. This ensures our research outcomes directly contribute to solving pressing societal challenges.
