Delve into your artistic and design research passions - spanning digital game art, visual storytelling, and photographic arts - with guidance from our expert faculty through Cambridge's PhD program. Grounded in your specialized field, you'll analyze your work within critical frameworks, defining both conceptual and hands-on investigative approaches while making unique additions to academic discourse. You'll receive mentorship from two primary advisors, supplemented by additional faculty support as needed. Our advisors bring expertise across diverse art and design domains, including: interdisciplinary creative practices, visual communication and type design, spatial design (with particular focus on lighting applications), identity in design, and the intersection of fashion with human behavior.
As part of Cambridge School of Art, you'll join a dynamic, expanding community of doctoral researchers. Our research networks emphasize collaborative, cross-disciplinary exploration through connections with the University's Science and Engineering departments, as well as partnerships with regional and national arts organizations and professionals. Your specialized studies will be strengthened by comprehensive university training programs, developing essential research skills in ethical practices, academic presentations, copyright considerations, and digital research methodologies.
