Become qualified to practice as a music therapist in the UK and internationally through this HCPC-accredited Masters program. Learn at a globally recognized research hub while completing clinical placements. With a history of training music therapists since 1994, we pioneered the first music therapy Masters degree in the UK. Our program collaborates with the prestigious Cambridge Institute for Music Therapy Research. We encourage applicants with suitable musical abilities and clinical background.

Guided by specialists, you'll develop comprehensive knowledge of music therapy principles and practices, supported by cutting-edge research and evidence.

Our MA Music Therapy holds Health and Care Professions Council accreditation, enabling graduates to register with the HCPC - an essential step for practicing professionally in the UK. This intensive two-year program demonstrates how musical expertise can enhance patient and client health outcomes.

You'll explore contemporary music therapy techniques during placements across educational, healthcare, and community environments.

Under professional supervision, you'll acquire hands-on experience in multidisciplinary teams, preparing you for clinical practice.

At ARU, you'll train in our dedicated music therapy facility with extensive resources including instruments, recording gear, and digital music studios.

Our practical curriculum emphasizes improvisation development, primary instrument mastery, and keyboard/voice techniques alongside theoretical foundations connecting to clinical applications.
