Pursuing a Biomedical Science degree at ARU will immerse you in the study of human biology at molecular, organ, and systemic levels, along with disease investigation and treatment methods. Our dedicated, expert faculty will guide you through cutting-edge research on critical health issues like cancer, diabetes, antibiotic resistance, and blood clotting disorders. This vibrant field continuously evolves through groundbreaking discoveries that enhance global health outcomes.
The program starts with foundational studies in general biology, human anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and cellular/molecular biology. You'll then progress to contemporary diagnostic methods and specialized biomedical fields such as blood science, clinical biochemistry, tissue pathology, genetic medicine, infectious disease studies, and immune system disorders.
You'll learn in our advanced Science Center, utilizing modern lecture halls and labs equipped with specialized instruments. During your final year, with faculty guidance, you'll conduct an independent research project in your chosen biomedical specialty. The program also offers an optional placement year for gaining professional experience.
Our Cambridge-based three-year program holds accreditation from the Institute of Biomedical Science, qualifying graduates for NHS laboratory trainee positions as HCPC-registered biomedical scientists. Both our standard and placement-year programs are recognized by the Royal Society of Biology, preparing you for biomedical careers or advanced studies in science and medicine.
