As a Biomedical Science student at ARU, you'll explore the human body from molecular to systemic levels while gaining expertise in disease investigation and treatment. Our dedicated, expert faculty will guide you through cutting-edge research on critical health issues including cancer, diabetes, antibiotic resistance, and blood clotting disorders. This vibrant field continuously evolves through groundbreaking discoveries that enhance global health outcomes.
Your journey starts with foundational studies in general biology, human anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and molecular biology. You'll then progress to mastering contemporary diagnostic methods and specialized areas like hematology, clinical biochemistry, cellular pathology, genetic medicine, microbial infections, and immune system disorders.
You'll learn in our advanced Science Center, utilizing modern lecture halls and labs equipped with specialized instruments. During your final year, you'll conduct original research under faculty guidance, investigating a biomedical topic of your choice. The program also offers an optional placement year for gaining professional experience.
Our Cambridge-based three-year program holds accreditation from the Institute of Biomedical Science, qualifying graduates for NHS laboratory trainee positions as HCPC-registered biomedical scientists. Both our standard and placement-year programs carry Royal Society of Biology accreditation. These degrees not only prepare you for biomedical careers but also provide strong foundations for advanced studies in science or medicine.
