This program delves into the forces that mold societies and personal experiences, examining the connections that unite individuals, groups, and institutions as well as the divisions that separate them.
As a BA (Hons) Sociology student at ARU, you'll study foundational thinkers like Weber and Marx while investigating modern challenges such as individualism and digital connectivity, exploring their influence on human actions.
You'll have opportunities to focus on specialized topics that captivate you—from substance use in societies to cybercrime, social regulation, sports, or human-environment relationships—through our diverse elective courses. ARU fosters a collaborative academic environment where you'll learn from experts in social policy and theory who research critical areas including racial dynamics, urban studies, deviance, sports sociology, identity formation, governance systems, ethical frameworks, alcohol perceptions, gender violence, equity issues, and marginalized community relationships.
The program equips you for professional life by offering hands-on research opportunities in communities or workplaces, providing real-world perspectives on societal challenges. You'll explore practical applications by developing, presenting, and assessing initiatives with potential social benefits. An optional placement year in government agencies, NGOs, charities, or social enterprises allows you to align fieldwork with your personal interests.
