In this program, you'll examine the forces that shape societies and personal experiences, the connections between individuals, groups, and institutions, as well as the divisions that exist within them.
As a BA (Hons) Sociology student at ARU, you'll study foundational thinkers like Weber and Marx while investigating modern challenges such as individualism and digital connectivity, exploring their influence on human behavior.
You'll have the flexibility to focus on topics that captivate you—whether it's substance use in societies, cybercrime, social regulation, sports, or human-environment interactions—through our diverse elective courses. ARU fosters a collaborative environment where faculty and students support one another. During your studies, you'll learn from experts specializing in social policy and theory who research varied sociological themes, including race and identity, urban studies, deviance, sports sociology, belonging, governance, ethical frameworks, alcohol perceptions, gender violence, equity, and marginalized community dynamics.
Additionally, you'll gain career-ready skills by conducting fieldwork in communities or workplaces, acquiring hands-on experience with social challenges. You'll explore applying this knowledge by developing, presenting, and assessing initiatives with societal benefits. An optional placement year in government agencies, NGOs, charities, or social enterprises allows you to align practical experience with your interests.
