You'll examine an array of texts, from traditional forms like novels, poetry, and drama to theatrical productions, films, essays, pamphlets, reviews, and critical theory, honing your analytical reading and response skills.
Literature study—inherently interdisciplinary—will deepen your knowledge of history, politics, philosophy, religion, psychology, and other fields, alongside the written works that have influenced global thought.
During your studies, you'll also have chances to investigate themes from related creative disciplines, such as writing, film, and media. This English Literature degree equips you with versatile skills prized by employers across sectors, including literacy, communication, critical analysis, problem-solving, research, and both independent and team-based work.
Our diverse optional modules let you tailor your studies to your interests. You might delve into specific genres like crime fiction or children's literature, explore digital publishing or online journalism, or refine your creative writing abilities. Enhance your employability further by opting for a work placement year, studying abroad for a term, or learning a new language through our Anglia Language Programme.
We'll assist you in securing placements and work experience opportunities during your studies. You can also choose an optional placement year or seek part-time roles, with real-world projects integrated into certain modules—our students recently collaborated with Metal Culture, contributing critical analyses for their publication In Other Words.
