Examine the root causes of criminal behavior, assess the impact of punitive measures, and analyze media portrayals of crime and victimization.

This process will encourage you to reconsider your preconceptions. You'll hone abilities in analyzing conflicting data, applying critical analysis, and constructing well-reasoned arguments by studying methodologies from sociology, psychology, political theory, and legal studies regarding crime and intricate societal issues.

Our BA (Hons) Criminology program emphasizes experiential education. Instruction occurs through real-world scenarios, cutting-edge research, and engaging workshops - with potential visits to judicial settings, correctional facilities, and historical locations like Auschwitz.

At ARU, we foster a collaborative environment between faculty and learners. During your criminology studies, you'll receive individualized academic guidance and access to specialized online communities for criminology students.

Collectively, we'll investigate the origins, societal reactions, and media depiction of contemporary pressing crimes. These encompass gender-based violence, white-collar offenses, situational crimes, wartime atrocities, institutional corruption, and metropolitan subcultures.

Career preparation begins immediately: developing professional materials, participating in recruitment events, contributing to our yearly criminology symposium, and learning from influential justice system professionals and leading criminology scholars.

Additionally, our partnerships with regional and national entities, including police departments in Essex, Cambridgeshire, and Bedfordshire, provide practical experience opportunities and inform your capstone research. Volunteer positions with organizations such as Romsey Mill - a community initiative addressing inequality, advocating for fairness, and supporting youth and families - may also be available.
