This represents a possible field of study for research degrees, pending University approval. Prospective students interested in pursuing research in this discipline should consult with the Dean to review their proposed project.
The Division of Mental Health Nursing & Counselling maintains dynamic research initiatives (MSc, MPhil, PhD) focusing on mental health nursing as a specialized field, emphasizing practitioner development, education, clinical applications, and pluralistic counseling approaches. Research teams from both specialties work collaboratively with University colleagues.
Through collaboration with the Scottish Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals Research Unit, the Division offers a successful MSc by Research program tailored for mental health nursing professionals.
The Division also houses the Tayside Centre for Counselling, a clinical facility that facilitates research degrees exploring topics including adaptation to disabilities and chronic illnesses, evaluation of counseling methods, and advancements in the Pluralistic Framework for integrated Counseling and Psychotherapy approaches.
This clinic maintains partnerships with several UK-based institutions that share similar research objectives.
Our research programs equip graduates for fulfilling academic and research careers while also creating pathways to various professional opportunities beyond academia.
