Game Art and Animation are professional specializations within the gaming sector, requiring diverse creative, conceptual, and technical abilities. This practice encompasses various areas including 2D digital artwork, 3D modeling and sculpting, photogrammetry, graphic design and illustration, interface design, keyframe animation, motion capture, and technical arts with scripting.

For research purposes, Abertay offers specialized supervision combining academic expertise and industry knowledge to guide practice-based studies in Game Art and Animation. Research may focus not only on gaming applications—such as refining content creation processes—but also on other uses like applied gaming, visualization, and cultural/heritage initiatives.

As the primary partner for InGAME: Innovation for Games and Media Enterprise, an AHRC-supported R&D hub for Dundee's gaming community, Abertay University provides postgraduate students with R&D prospects and industry connections. Dundee, one of the UK's most established gaming centers, enables strong ties with local, national, and international studios.

Abertay's research is inherently collaborative across disciplines, benefiting arts researchers exploring multi-technology applications, audience analysis, and engagement with private, public, and nonprofit sectors. Qualification Requirements

The minimum entry requirement for all our research degrees is an Upper Second Class Honours degree (or equivalent) at undergraduate level in an appropriate discipline and/or a Master's degree.

IELTS Academic: total 6.5 with at least 6.0 in each component.
TOEFL-iBT (including Home Edition): total 92 with at least 20 in each component. We do not accept TOEFL My Best Score to meet our English language requirements.
