This represents a possible field for research degrees, pending University approval. Those considering postgraduate research in this discipline should consult with the Dean to review their proposed study.
Abertay's Division of Psychology and Forensic Sciences plays a significant role in facilitating research degrees, including collaborative programs with the NHS, regional education authorities, Police Scotland, and various business and digital technology sectors.
As part of the Scottish Graduate School for Social Sciences, Abertay's psychology researchers work across disciplines with peers from other academic departments. The university specializes in diverse areas including psychophysics, vision science, numerical cognition, language acquisition, evolutionary psychology, forensic psychology, social cognition, cognitive neuroscience, and movement perception studies.
The psychology research facilities at Abertay are comprehensively equipped, featuring nine dedicated faculty members, specialized laboratories, and experimental workspaces. The infrastructure includes high-performance computing systems with specialized software (E-prime, Superlab, N-Vivo, Paradigm, SPSS, Observer XT) and advanced hardware such as an anechoic chamber, eye-tracking systems (SMI 3.0 Eye View, SMI Eye View X HED), physiological monitoring equipment (GSR, EEG, tCDS, BioHarness Telemetry System), and surveillance technology. Researchers also benefit from cross-departmental access to virtual reality facilities and other digital innovations.
Our research programs equip graduates for academic careers, research positions, and various professional opportunities beyond academia.
