This undergraduate program is the sole one in Scotland accredited by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) in the United States, the world's leading professional body in this field. It represents one of the specialized pathways available within Abertay's sports curriculum. Students select their specialization at the conclusion of year two in the BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise degree. Strength and Conditioning (S&C) plays a vital role across various amateur and professional sports organizations, though the responsibilities of an S&C professional go far beyond conventional strength training—it's not limited to sports settings. The advanced scientific knowledge of training and performance needed to excel as an S&C expert is also valuable when working with youth, older adults, and individuals managing or preventing various health conditions. The program includes hands-on training in our Human Performance Laboratory, equipped with treadmills, rowing machines, fitness assessment tools, and weight equipment. Additionally, students will interact with elite athletes who regularly consult our faculty in this specialized facility.
