The Bachelor of Nursing Māori program is grounded in kaupapa Māori principles, guiding your educational path to become a Nursing Council of New Zealand-registered nurse. Your learning journey bridges Te Ao Māori and Te Ao Tapuhi (Nursing World). After completing three years of study and passing the Nursing Council State Examination, you'll prove to your whānau, hapū, Iwi, and the public that you possess both cultural and clinical competence to practice as a Registered Nurse locally or internationally.
For more than three decades, nursing has been a flagship program at Whitireia. Throughout this period, Whitireia has earned recognition for preparing graduates who are employment-ready and highly valued by healthcare employers. Prospective students can choose from three NZQA-approved Bachelor of Nursing degrees that meet Nursing Council registration standards: the Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Nursing Māori, and Bachelor of Nursing Pacific.
Each program spans three years of full-time study, blending theoretical classroom instruction at our Porirua campus with hands-on clinical placements across diverse healthcare environments.
