The Bachelor of Building Science is a three-year undergraduate program that equips students with specialized knowledge in building science, technology, and economics, along with architectural principles.
This degree was established to address the increasing demands of New Zealand's construction sector. Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington now stands as a global pioneer in building science education, offering the nation's premier BBSc program focused on building sciences.
Students share foundational courses with Architecture majors in their first year before specializing in either Project Management or Sustainable Engineering Systems during years two and three. The option exists to pursue both specializations simultaneously.
These complementary specializations are frequently combined as a dual major. The curriculum develops skills for designing efficient systems while providing practical and theoretical expertise for constructing sustainable, resilient structures. Choosing both specializations eliminates the need for elective courses in the final two years.
